It’s hard to unwind as a mompreneur, especially during times of stress. Maybe you just had a new baby, maybe it’s the holidays, or maybe your business is really starting to take off. While these are all fun events, they can really take their toll if you aren’t taking the time to unwind and take care of yourself. So here are my top 14 ways to unwind as a mompreneur.

Read A Good Book

Who doesn’t love a good book? Now…how many books have you actually read in the last year? If you’re anything like me, you LOVE reading, but it may be hard to find the time to actually do so. One of the best ways to unwind is snuggled in bed with a good book.

It can be anything, including non-fiction, but just taking the time to read boosts my creativity, helps me unwind, and inspires me. Take some time to read one of those unread books on your nightstand the next time you want to unwind.

Write

As a blogger, I had to add this. Now, I don’t mean write a blog post or start your new book (even if you enjoy doing it). I mean take the time to write in a journal. Write about your day. Jot down a few things you’re grateful for. Write down the random words in your head. Just take a few minutes before bed to unwind and write. Not only is it therapeutic, but it may help inspire or motivate you when you need it the most.

Color

Remember coloring as a kid and how much fun it was? Well, adult coloring books have become super popular in recent years, and they are the perfect way to unwind as a mompreneur! Grab some crayons or colored pencils (I prefer colored pencils, but whatever works best for you) and fill in your favorite coloring book. There are even coloring books specifically used to help you unwind!

Take A Long Bath

Grab your Epsom salts, bubble bath, or a nice bath bomb, throw them in the tub, and spend a few minutes soaking the day away. You may be asking “How am I supposed to find the time to do that as a mompreneur?”. Find the time! Even if it’s at 11 pm or once all the kids are put to bed. Trust me on this one. A long bath at the end of the day is one of the easiest, cheapest, and best ways to unwind as a mompreneur. I’ve even found myself falling asleep because it’s that soothing! If you’re having trouble sleeping at night, this may be the #1 way to get some zzz’s in.

Go For A Walk

Even if you don’t like working out, there’s just something about going for a nice long walk. You could take a walk after your kids have gone to bed, or you could even bring them along. I’ve actually taken my daughter on a few late night walks, and it’s helped her fall asleep faster once we get back home. It helps me unwind, it helps her unwind, and it’s a win-win situation for us both. If you’d rather not go for a walk with your kids, there is nothing wrong with going by yourself. And you don’t have to take long! A quick walk around the block should do it.

Yoga

If you don’t want to (or can’t) get out of the house, you can always try a quick yoga session to put your mind and body at ease. I have a few of my favorite videos that I use on a rotating basis, one being a quick 15-minute session, and one being a little longer for when I really want to stretch and unwind.

Do Something That Makes You Feel Good

Have you been slacking on your beauty or health routines? Have you made the time to take care of yourself so you can feel your best? If not, take a little time and pamper yourself. Even if it’s just buffing and polishing your nails, doing something that makes you feel good will have you feeling better and unwinding at the same time. I love taking some time to do a scalp massage and putting a mask on my face. It only takes me about 20 minutes to do both (I massage while the face mask does its magic) but I feel so much better after!

Make A Treat

Do you have a snack or dessert that you love treating yourself to, but rarely do it because you don’t want to share with your kids? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Wait for the kids to go to sleep, and have your treat in peace. You could also add this to any of the other ways to unwind on this list, but this is perfect all on its own!

Watch TV

I have to admit, I don’t watch much TV. We don’t even have cable, but if we did, I still wouldn’t watch it. I just don’t have the time. However, I do have a few guilty pleasure shows. I typically favorite them on Hulu or Netflix, and then I’ll spend a few hours on Friday or Saturday nights to binge watch. It’s one of my favorite ways to unwind as a mompreneur, and it feels so guilty but so fun!

Window Shop

Go shopping without the buyer’s remorse, and window shop online! Add items to your Amazon account, spend a little time admiring the new clothes of the season, or surf a few makeup sites. Whatever it is, give yourself a little time to shop around without the guilt. You don’t have to purchase anything, but there is just something so therapeutic about window shopping online. Or is it just me that thinks this?

Play A Game

Now by playing a game, I don’t mean hide and seek with the kids. Download a few games on your phone, or play video games with your significant other (or by yourself!). I love unwinding with a game of Sudoku, or even a crossword puzzle. I’ve even been known to play around 300 levels of Candy Crush. Yeah, I’ve gotten addicted to that game before. No matter what you choose though, make sure it’s something that you enjoy!

Talk To Someone

I understand how busy you can get as a mompreneur. So many people to talk to and deal with on a regular basis. So why would I add this to the list? Well…talking can be fun, especially with the right people. Take some time to call your best friend, a loved one, or even just lay in bed and chat with your significant other if you have one. You’d be surprised to know how easy it is to unwind while talking to someone you care about.

Get A Massage

It doesn’t even have to be a professional massage! Ask your significant other to give you one. We work hard as mompreneurs, and a massage every now and then is the perfect way to unwind after a long day. Bonus points if you promise to give your significant other a massage when they’ve had a long day. Pay it forward ladies.

Cuddle

You can cuddle with your significant other, but you can also unwind by cuddling with your kids, or even cuddling your pets if you have them. Cuddling is the perfect way to unwind as a mompreneur because it doesn’t require any time or effort. Just cuddle up with someone and hold them or be held. That’s it!

It doesn’t have to be expensive or take a long time to unwind as a mompreneur. In fact, almost all of these options are free and can be done in as little as 30 minutes. But taking some time to focus on you can bring you clarity, peace, and the feeling that you can do everything, even if it means doing it tomorrow.
