As you know, I’ve teamed up with some incredible women all over the internet and globe, so they can share with you what it’s like to be your everyday entrepremomer, a woman who not only takes care of her family, but that runs her business as well. These are REAL women, mothers, and business owners that are figuring it all out as they go, and I hope their stories, tips, and tricks inspire YOU to be the best mompreneur you can be.
Just as a disclaimer, these ladies are sharing their stories and lives as a way to encourage and inspire, so let’s make sure they feel welcome!
Let’s get into my interview with Melissa of Melissa The Coach!
Let’s start with the basics. What’s your name, what do you do, how old are you, how many kids do you have, etc?
Hey! I’m Melissa, personal finance coach|speaker|author. I’m 45, and I have 2 boys ages 13 and 12, one husband, 4 rescue dogs and a turtle!
How did you get your start as an entrepreneur?
My husband and I had set on a journey to get out of debt. Once I started helping other people, I decided to start my business.
What have been the best experiences you’ve had as an entrepreneur?
My best experience would be watching people “get it” in terms of managing finances and the time freedom that is allowed from owning my own business.
What have been the worst experiences you’ve had as an entrepreneur?
It would be not knowing how much money I will earn each month and people who come to me for coaching help but do not implement any of the strategies.
Tell us something personal. Something that a boss mom would understand. Something that inspires a mom to take the leap into entrepreneurship.
Being a boss mom means being able to be with my kids and my husband when I want or need to. It’s a great experience!
How do you “manage it all” as a mompreneur?
Delegation and learning that I don’t have to do everything. Also, I manage it by knowing that I can’t be all the things for everybody and being ok with that.
What are some tips that you’d recommend to any mother getting her start in the entrepreneurship world?
Just do it! You will learn as you go. Make sure you find another mom who is also an entrepreneur that is farther ahead than you to provide encouragement and support.
What is one thing you would change if you could start your biz over?
I would have learned more about what it meant to own and run a business from the start.
What are your plans for your biz’s future?
I plan to do more speaking to motivate and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
On to the fun questions! What’s your favorite color, movie, and ice cream?
My favorite color is blue.
My favorite movie is The Lion King.
My favorite ice cream is Rocky Road!
I’m also a HUGE fan of Elton John – I’ve seen him 38 times in concert!
