When you’re the only one in your business who can work on and in your business, it can get overwhelming when you have to do ALL THE THINGS. That’s why it’s essential to automate and schedule as much as you can as a solopreneur. As you may know by now, I love my tools and resources that help me run my business solo. I use so many different tools, all for a specific purpose, and some do cost more than others.
But today, I’ll be sharing one of my favorite free tools with you. If you’re anything like me, you know that social media is important, but you just don’t care too much for it. I love browsing on Instagram and Pinterest, but actually posting on them and using them to grow my business was super hard for me at first.
Over the last year, I’ve been able to be more consistent and more present on social media, especially Instagram, for one specific reason. I started using Planoly. It’s been a lifesaver for me and my business, and it allows me to stay active on Instagram without the headache. So here’s my Planoly review, how I use it, and why I love it so much!
It’s Easy To Use
So first, let’s talk about how easy Planoly is to use. I’d like to consider myself fairly tech-savvy, but even I don’t know how to work everything online. With Planoly, I didn’t even have to use a manual or guide. It’s seriously that easy. You create an account, log in, and start scheduling your posts right away. I use Planoly to schedule all of the graphics that I create in Canva, and I’ll even upload photos of my Bitmoji (my little avatar) and some behind the scenes or personal photos from time to time.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works (after you log in), just in case you’re curious, or really hate technology.
Set Up Auto-Posting
Before you do anything else, go ahead and set up auto-posting. Planoly has an easy walk through to set it up, and you can click here to follow it. But the gist is that you need a business account on Instagram, and your Facebook page should be connected as well.
Upload Your Graphics
Once you’ve set up auto-posting, it’s time to upload your graphics. As I said, I create my graphics in Canva. Once I’ve downloaded them, all I do is drag and drop them into the “add media” section. You can also click the add new media button, and it will bring up all of your photos. From there, you can choose which graphics you want to upload.
Side note: You can also do this via your phone through the Planoly app. I do use Canva on my phone sometimes and will download the photos there. Since I have the Planoly app, I can follow the same exact steps on my phone and schedule my posts the same way. This allows me to create content at any time, even when I’m on the go!
Schedule Your Posts
I’m not going to get into content creation in this post, but you should be aware of your own Instagram strategy and what you plan on posting. Once you have your strategy in place, it’s time to schedule your posts, and it’s super simple. Just drag one of the uploaded graphics that you created over to the calendar portion, and let go. From there, the graphic will pop up and offer you the option to add your caption, hashtags, and set the time that you want to post. Click the auto-post button on, and let that sucker run! Planoly will alert you when they’ve posted on your behalf. As long as you’ve got content scheduled in it, Planoly will run seamlessly.

I told you it was all really simple. The best part of all of this is that Planoly saves me so much time. I used to spend hours creating graphics, saving them to my phone, adding them to Instagram, creating a caption, adding hashtags, etc, every single week. Now, I spend two hours a month max on Instagram content! That frees up so much of my time to actually engage with my community, stalk my favorite people and mentors, and do other things in my business that are more important than coming up with the perfect caption. Being able to do this all for free is even better, which brings me to my next point.
Planoly is completely free up to 30 posts a month. There are no trials, no holding your credit card info, nothing like that. It’s completely free month to month as long as you schedule 30 Instagram posts (or less) each month. Now, if you schedule more often than that (which I do), or want to post videos or gifs (which I also do), then you’ll need one of their paid plans, which start at $9/monthly. Even if you did grab a paid plan, $9/month for hours saved can still make you more money in the long run!
However, the free plan is perfectly adequate for you if you’re just getting started, or if you’re trying to save time but not spend too much money on your business. Trust me, I’ve been there. In fact, I used the free Planoly plan for about seven months before I finally bit the bullet and purchased the paid plan. The free plan offers more than enough to get started and get your flow going before you commit to a paid plan.
They Allow GIFs and Stories
This is one of the main reasons I switched to the paid version of Planoly. I wanted to post GIFs to my feed and also create and post stories as well. With only 30 posts a month available, I knew I would go over that amount in a week with the stories I created. So, I decided to invest in the paid plan.
And it was worth it! I can now post as much as I want and not be limited to just 30 posts a month. Don’t get me wrong, it was great when I had no idea how to work Instagram, and it was suitable when I was figuring out my social media strategy, but I just wanted more out of it. And it’s a great thing that Planoly has so much to offer with the $9/month option because I don’t see myself upgrading again for quite a while. I can now post GIFs and videos, and I can schedule my Instagram Stories right into Planoly and let them run. Score!
It Allows Automatic Posting
I know I’ve already mentioned this when I was telling you how easy Planoly was to use, but I thought this deserved its own section. A long time ago, Instagram hated anyone who would try to use a social media scheduler for their platform. They had rules that stated you couldn’t use a third party app to post on Instagram, and they would ban you if they found out you were going against their policy.
But all of that changed with Planoly. Planoly is one of the only Instagram schedulers that allows you to auto-post to your feed, without lifting a finger. As long as you have a business account, and as long as you set the button to “auto-post”, Planoly can post everything for you without you approving and without you having to log in every single time.
This has been the biggest time saver for me, and one of the main reasons I wanted to do a Planoly review. Before I started using Planoly, I had used another scheduler that would alert me when it was time to post my scheduled photo. I would then have to make sure I was logged into the correct Instagram account, go into the app, and then press “send” so my photo would post. No thanks. If I’m going to take the time to schedule my content out, I want to be as hands-off as possible. And Planoly allows me to do that.
So there you have it, my Planoly review! Overall, I have loved using Planoly for the last year, and I will continue to use it. Now only can it save you time, but it also saves you money because time is money and you don’t want to waste your time constantly posting on Instagram!
