As you know, I’ve teamed up with some incredible women all over the internet and globe, so they can share with you what it’s like to be your everyday entrepremomer, a woman who not only takes care of her family, but that runs her business as well. These are REAL women, mothers, and business owners that are figuring it all out as they go, and I hope their stories, tips, and tricks inspire YOU to be the best mompreneur you can be.

Just as a disclaimer, these ladies are sharing their stories and lives as a way to encourage and inspire, so let’s make sure they feel welcome!

Let’s get into my interview with Jamie Reinhart of Jamie Reinhart Photography!

Let’s start with the basics. What’s your name, what do you do, how old are you, how many kids do you have, etc?

Hi! My name is Jamie, I am 37 years old, and I have 2 boys ages 5 and 3 1/2 years old. I am a wedding photographer and have just recently started offering VA services and Social Media/Email Marketing services to creative entrepreneurs.

How did you get your start as an entrepreneur?

I was an Elementary School teacher for 8 years before becoming pregnant with my first child. I knew that during my time off for maternity leave I HAD to do something that allowed me more time with my baby. So I decided to start a photography business out of the blue-because at the time I was taking photography classes.

I was very naive in thinking that starting my own photography business would be what would give me this freedom to have all of the time in the world I wanted with my children. I quickly learned that running and maintaining a sustainable business was just about the same as having an extra child. On top of that, we decided to add child number 2 to the mix shortly after our first.

What have been the best experiences you’ve had as an entrepreneur?

Breaking out of my shell and networking with fellow creatives and really learning how to market took my business to a place I never thought was possible.

What have been the worst experiences you’ve had as an entrepreneur?

That beginning phase of not knowing how much to charge as well as not knowing my limits of how much work I can take on. The stress of that with a young child is a mistake I hope I can keep others from making.

Tell us something personal. Something that a boss mom would understand. Something that inspires a mom to take the leap into entrepreneurship.

There are going to be days where you feel like there is just no way in the world you can juggle a home, family, self, relationship, business. Truth is though-you can. You can do this and it will be the hardest work you have ever done, but it will be so worth it.

How do you “manage it all” as a mompreneur?

I may manage it all, but I don’t manage it all at once. I prioritize, keep a detailed running to-do list, and make sure all areas of my life are being tended to in some way, shape, or form. If you start realizing that you haven’t spent time with your spouse this past week, it’s time to take a break.

What are some tips that you’d recommend to any mother getting her start in the entrepreneurship world?

I recommend reaching out and finding a mentor. You may reach out to 100 people, and 99 of them may say no, but be persistent and find someone willing to take you under their wing.

Start by finding your cost of doing business. You can find a ton on this topic by searching, but to put it simply it is the amount you need to make per year divided by the amount of jobs/clients/items to make each year (you can do this on a monthly basis too). This will keep you from charging too little to the point where your business is costing you money.

Keeping up with current business and social media trends is a full-time job on its own. Do not underestimate the amount of time you will need for the business side of things.

What is one thing you would change if you could start your biz over?

One thing I always recommend now to business owners is to determine where you really WANT your price to be. Set that as your price, but if you would like to discount, give out vouchers or gift cards. For example: You know that your watercolor family pictures need to sell for $100 per painting (I know nothing about the correct price for this, so just take this as an example). However, you have never sold to anyone before and need to build up a client base. You offer $50 Gift Certificates. This way, you are still charging less, but are letting them know what you are really worth.

This will make it easier to increase prices as needed. If you start out charging $50 and then all of a sudden jump to $100, you are opening the door for potential clients to ask questions.

What are your plans for your biz’s future?

My future plans include scaling down the wedding photography business and to start offering creative entrepreneurs Social Media and Marketing services and education, and to be a place where brands and businesses come for uplifting!

On to the fun questions! What’s your favorite color, movie, and ice cream?

My favorite color is blue.

I love the first Transformers movie.

My favorite ice cream is chocolate!
